Weather at Adi Kailash & Om Parvat — Month-by-Month Guide (2026)

Understanding the Adi Kailash Climate

The Adi Kailash yatra route passes through multiple climate zones — from the subtropical Kumaon foothills (600 M) to the alpine borderlands near Jolingkong (4,600 M). Weather conditions can change dramatically within a single day's drive.

Month-by-Month Breakdown

April–May: Early Season Opening

  • Daytime: 5°C to 15°C
  • Night: 0°C to 5°C
  • Conditions: Clear skies, crisp air, stunning views of snow-capped peaks
  • Roads: Opening after winter closure; some sections may still be under snow clearance
  • Verdict: Good for experienced travellers. Roads can be unpredictable in early April.

June: Peak Season (Recommended)

  • Daytime: 10°C to 20°C
  • Night: 5°C to 10°C
  • Conditions: Stable weather, clear mornings, occasional afternoon clouds
  • Roads: Fully open and maintained by BRO (Border Roads Organisation)
  • Verdict: The safest and most rewarding month. Best guide availability. First-time yatris should target June.

July: Monsoon Arrives

  • Daytime: 15°C to 25°C (Dharchula), 8°C to 18°C (Gunji)
  • Night: 10°C to 18°C
  • Conditions: Heavy rainfall, particularly at Dharchula. Dramatically increased landslide risk on the Dharchula–Tawaghat section.
  • Roads: Variable. Sections are regularly closed for days at a time due to debris flows. In 2023 and 2024, the road was blocked for multiple weeks in August.
  • Verdict: Risky. Only attempt if you have flexible dates and can wait out closures.

August: Deep Monsoon

  • Daytime: 15°C to 25°C
  • Night: 12°C to 18°C
  • Conditions: Heaviest rainfall of the year. Leeches on forest trails. Persistent cloud cover hides mountain views.

  • Verdict: Not recommended. Most agencies suspend operations.

September: Post-Monsoon Window (Recommended)

  • Daytime: 5°C to 15°C
  • Night: -5°C to 5°C
  • Conditions: Rains recede rapidly. Crystal-clear skies return. The mountains are freshly washed and spectacular.
  • Roads: Reopening and improving. BRO clears monsoon damage.
  • Verdict: Excellent. Cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and the best mountain visibility of the year.

October: Autumn Clarity

  • Daytime: 2°C to 12°C
  • Night: -8°C to 0°C
  • Conditions: Dry, cold, and stunningly clear. Snow begins appearing on higher passes.
  • Roads: Open but cold. Frost on roads in early morning.
  • Verdict: Beautiful but cold. Requires serious warm clothing. The route closes by late October.

November–March: Winter Closure

  • Temperature: -6°C to -30°C
  • Conditions: Deep snow. Roads are completely closed. No access to Adi Kailash.
  • Verdict: Route is closed.

What to Pack Based on Season
