Overview
Munsyari sits at 2,200 M in the shadow of the Panchachuli range — five snow peaks that fill the eastern horizon at sunrise with a colour so fierce it looks painted. The town is the last major settlement before the high mountain valleys of the Johar region and serves as the traditional gateway to the Milam Glacier trek. But Munsyari itself holds enough to fill a week: the Khaliya Top day trek rewards you with a 270-degree panorama of the Panchachuli, Rajrambha, Nanda Devi, and Trishul ranges. Birthi Falls (126 M) cascades through a cedar forest. Thamri Kund is a sacred alpine lake above the treeline. And the lower Gori Ganga valley takes you through Van Gujjar migration camps toward the ancient Milam route.

Common Questions
About This Yatra
How do I reach Munsyari?
By road from Pithoragarh (about 5–6 hours) or Almora (about 8–9 hours). The nearest airports are Pantnagar (240 km) and Jolly Grant, Dehradun (350 km). We can arrange transport from Pithoragarh on request.
Is the Khaliya Top trek suitable for beginners?
Yes — with good fitness. The trek is 10 km round trip with about 1,100 M elevation gain. It's steep in places but well-maintained. Most guests with regular fitness complete it comfortably in 5–6 hours.
Can I see the Panchachuli peaks clearly?
October and April-May are the clearest months. Pre-monsoon (April-June) and post-monsoon (September-October) both offer spectacular views. Avoid the monsoon months (July-August) when clouds cover the peaks.
What is the Milam Glacier route?
The Milam Glacier is one of the longest glaciers in the Kumaon Himalaya. The full trek from Munsyari takes 7-10 days. Our Explorer package covers the first stages of this route (Lilam/Bogdiyar) as a day excursion.
